Welcome back to our continuing journey through Disney history. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- June 29.
June 29th was a busy day in Disney history, with the release of a Pixar film, the opening of a Walt Disney World land, and also the christening of the newest Disney Cruise line ship! So, let’s get started!
Donald’s Crime Released (1945)
On this day in 1945, the Donald Duck short Donald’s Crime was released.
In the film, Donald raids his nephews’ piggy bank, only to feel guilty after.
Run, Appaloosa, Run Premieres (1966)
On this day in 1966, Disney’s live-action short film Run, Appaloosa, Run debuted.
The film told the story of Mary Blackfeather, a young Native American horse trainer.
America Sings Opens (1974)
On this day in 1974, America Sings opened at Disneyland.
The Audio-Animatronic show was hosted by Eagle Sam and replaced the Carousel of Progress in Tomorrowland.
Broadway at the Top Premieres (1981)
On this day in 1981, Broadway at the Top opened at the Top of the World supper club at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
The show celebrated the best of Broadway over the past 30 years.
Mickey & Friends Parking Garage Opens (2000)
On this day in 2000, Disneyland’s Mickey & Friends parking structure opened in Disneyland.
The parking garage can hold an amazing ten thousand cars.
Ratatouille Released (2007)
On this day in 2007, Pixar’s Ratatouille was released.
The film told the story of a rat named Remy who dreams of becoming a chef.
First Next Generation Disney Store Opens (2010)
On this day in 2010, the first of Disney’s 300 planned revamped Disney Stores opened in Montabello, California.
The 4,800 square foot store was designed by the same team that designed Apple’s retail outlets.
Gravity Falls Premiers (2012)
On this day in 2012, Gravity Falls premiered on the Disney Channel.
The series centered on the adventures of 12 year-old twin brother and sister Dipper and Mabel Pines who are sent ot live with their Great Uncle Stan in Gravity Falls, Oregon.
Toy Story Land Dedicated (2018)
On this day in 2018, Toy Story Land was dedicated at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The land was officially dedicated by Bob Chapek and Tim Allen.
Disney Wish Christened (2022)
On this day in 2022, the Disney Wish was officially christened.
The fifth and newest ship on the Disney Cruise Line, the Wish is based out of Port Canaveral, Florida.
