June 8th was a busy day in Disney history, with the release of a Donald Duck cartoon, the premiere of a Pixar sequel, and a special event at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. So, let’s get started!
Test Pilot Donald Released (1951)
On this day in 1951, the Donald Duck short Test Pilot Donald was released.
In the cartoon, Dale dreams of flying, and finds the perfect opportunity when Donald’s remote control airplane gets stuck in a tree.
The Great Locomotive Chase Released (1956)
On this day in 1956, The Great Locomotive Chase was released.
Based on a true story, the film told the story of James J. Andrews, a spy who led a band of Union soldiers into the South during the Civil War. The troop attempted to steal a train and destroy a railway system but was ultimately thwarted.
Douglas Aircraft Sponsors Rocket To The Moon (1962)
On this day in 1962, Douglas Aircraft assumed sponsorship of Disneyland’s Rocket to the Moon.
The sponsorship would last until 1967.
Donald Duck Film Festival Held (1984)
On this day in 1984, Donald Duck and Clarence Nash hosted the opening of the Donald Duck film festival in New York.
The festival was a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Donald’s debut.
Nancy Regan Visits Walt Disney World (1988)
On this day in 1988, First Lady Nancy Regan visited Walt Disney World where she attended the Foster Grandparents Jamboree.
Reagan also toured the brand-new Mickey’ss Birthdayland.
Jett Jackson: The Movie Premiers (2001)
On this day in 2001, the Disney Channel original movie Jett Jackson: The Movie premiered.
Road To High School Musical 2 Debuts (2007)
On this day in 2007, the Disney Channel show Road to High School Musical 2 premiered.
The new series gave viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming sequel.
Tick Tock Tale Premiers (2010)
On this day in 2010, the Disney short Tick Tock Tale premiered.
The cartoon told the story of a small quirky mantle clock, who comes to the aid of the more expensive clocks when a thief breaks into an old London clock shop.
Finding Dory Premiers (2016)
On this day in 2016, Finding Dory premiered at the El Capitan Theatre.
A sequel to 2003’s Finding Nemo, the film starred Ellen DeGeneres as the titular blue fish.
Toy Story 4 Event Held (2019)
On this day in 2019, a special celebration was held in Disney’s Hollywood Studios for the upcoming release of Toy Story 4.
Among the celebrities in attendance were Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Annie Potts, and Keanu Reeves.
