‘Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny’ Heading Toward a $65 Million Opening
Indiana Jones is set to once again rule the box office when the franchise’s fifth installment Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny hits theaters this weekend.
The final exploit for Harrison Ford as the famed archeologist is expected to bring in at least $65 million at the domestic office in addition to another $80 million internationally.
Those numbers would give the film a global opening of $145 to $150 million.
A Massive Budget
Unlike most tentpole releases, Dial of Destiny will look to bring older moviegoers back to theaters. Disney spent an amazing $295 million making the film. That does not include the marketing budget for Ford’s last hurrah.
Needless to say, In order to turn a profit during its theatrical run, Dial of Destiny will need an extended run.
While the film will have the box office largely to itself on the July 4th weekend, it will quickly face competition from Mission: Impossible- Dead Reckoning Part One on July 12 and Oppenheimer on July 21.
Dial of Destiny will be the first Indiana Jones film released since 2008’s Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Theat film opened to $100 million, before ending its run with $317 million in North America and $790 globally.
One Last Adventure
As Harrison Ford rides off into the sunset, the last Indiana Jones film will not be helmed by Steven Spielberg. Instead, Logan filmmaker James Mangold will take the lead.
The film will see Ford don his iconic fedora for one last adventure alongside his goddaughter (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) on the search for an artifact that could change the course of history.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will hit theaters on June 30.
