Here at MickeyBlog, we reported the sad news over the weekend that a runner had passed away while running the 5K as part of this weekend’s Wine & Dine Half Marathon. A few more details have been revealed about this event which we wanted to pass on to our readers.
According to a recent piece in the Orlando Sentinel, the runner has been identified as 58-year-old Mark Lockridge. It is believed that he died of natural causes, though at this early stage information is still pending.
Reports suggest the Lockridge collapsed on a bridge in front of the restrooms by the Imagination! Pavilion. According to a spokesperson for Disney, this was just past the first mile on the 3.1 mile course. Reedy Creek paramedics were already on the scene and Lockridge was quickly transported to AdventHealth in Celebration.
In a statement, Walt Disney World had this to say, ““We are deeply saddened by this heartbreaking loss, and our thoughts and sympathies remain with the runner’s family and loved ones throughout this difficult time.”
