New Updated Braille Map at Magic Kingdom
On a recent visit to Magic Kingdom, we noticed a brand new, updated Braille Map. Located outside Plaza Ice Cream Parlor, it reflects Splash Mountain’s departure.
Former Braille Map
Here’s what the map used to look like. A natural background highlights a more traditional-looking layout.
The areas of the Park are displayed along the borders and include Liberty Square, Frontierland, Adventureland, Main Street, U.S.A., Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland.
Each land is color coded, with numbers corresponding to their places on the map. The image of Magic Kingdom looks as it does in real life, with appropriate colors, scenery, landscaping, and attractions.
At the bottom, its Legend highlights Guest Relations, First Aid, Restrooms, Service Animal Relief Area, and Companion Restroom.
New Updated Braille Map
The new, updated Braille Map is completely different! In addition to its many changes, you won’t find Splash Mountain on this sign.
This version has a bright green background, with Magic Kingdom’s map taking up the entirety of the space. Each listing has a white line pointing to its place in the Park.
Each has been given its own color, to differentiate it from the others. The bottom left corner features a white box, with correlating lands and colors.
In addition to the six lands, it displays water, rocks, buildings, and “You are here.” On the bottom right, the Legend showcases Guest Relations, Restrooms, Companion Restrooms, First Aid, Service Animal Relief Area, Street Curb, and Elevated Monorail Beam.
Disney World offers tools such as Audio Description, Braille Maps, and more for those in need of services for Visual Disabilities. If you’re looking for assistance in Magic Kingdom, this updated, Braille Map is located just outside Plaza Ice Cream Parlor.
