This Day in Disney History- June 19
Welcome back to our continuing journey through the Walt Disney Company’s past. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- June 19.
June 19th featured the release of two Disney animated classic, a new Pixar film, and the unveiling of a Walt Disney World icon. So, let’s get started!
Johnny Tremaine Released (1957)
On this day in 1957, Johnny Tremaine was released.
The film told the story of a young silversmith’s apprentice in colonial Boston who is drawn into the Civil War.
Disney Acquires Another Locomotive (1958)
On this day in 1958, a fourth locomotive arrived at the Disney backlot.
The train would be rebuilt and then put into service at Disneyland.
Not Quite Human Airs (1987)
On this day in 1987, the Disney Channel film Not Quite Human aired.
The film starred Alan Thicke, Robyn Lively and Jay Underwood, and told the story of a scientist who creates an android son.
The Rocketeer Premiers (1991)
On this day in 1991, The Rocketeer premiered at the El Capitan Theater.
In conjunction with the premiere, “Rocketeer: Excitement in the Air”, a behind the scenes look at the film, aired on the Disney Channel.
The Partners Statue Installed (1995)
On this day in 1995, the Partners Statue was installed at the Magic Kingdom.
Depicting Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse, the original statue was created by Blaine Gibson for Mickey’s birthday at Disneyland in November of 1993.
The Hunchback Of Notre Dame Premieres (1996)
On this day in 1996, The Hunchback of Notre Dame had its world premiere at the Superdome in New Orleans.
The premiere also featured a parade through the French Quarter.
DisneyQuest Opens (1998)
On this day in 1998, DisneyQuest opened at Walt Disney World’s Downtown Disney.
The interactive theme park feature four floors of games, interactive experiences, and entertainment.
Mulan Released (1998)
Also on this day in 1998, Mulan was released.
Based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, the film told the story of Fa Mulan, who takes her fathers place in the Chinese army and ends up becoming one of China’s greatest heroes.
Mulan Parade Premieres (1998)
Also on this day in 1998, the Mulan Parade premiered at the Disney-MGM Studios.
The parade debuted in celebration of Disney’s newest animated feature.
Inside Out Premiers (2015)
On this day in 2015, Inside Out premiered.
Pixar’s newest animated feature, the film told the story of Riley, a young girl who moves from the Midwest to San Francisco and the emotions inside her head- Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness.
