John Williams Surprises Audience At “Dial of Destiny” Premiere
Guests at the “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” Hollywood premiere got quite the surprise yesterday- a special performance by 5x Oscar winner John Williams.
The event was hosted by Steven Spielberg who spoke after director James Mangold had introduced a number of cast members.
Among those on hand were Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, John Rhys-Davies and Toby Jones.
Following the cast introduction, Spielberg took the microphone to pay special tribute to three people he said were indispensable to the “Indiana Jones” franchise.
First, he introduced “the man who created Indiana Jones,” George Lucas, and “the man who played him,” Ford.
The Big Reveal
Spielberg then turned his attention to Williams, who unlike Lucas and Ford was not standing on the stage. As the audience began to applaud for the veteran composer, the curtain rose to reveal the legendary maestro and a 70-piece orchestra.
As those in attendance rose for a standing ovation, Williams’ orchestra broke into a medley of movements from the “Indiana Jones” films.
Among the sections performed were “Helena’s Theme”, a gentle tune that Williams wrote for Waller-Bridge’s character in “Dial of Destiny”.
The performance then concluded with the Indiana Jones theme that has become one of the most iconic pieces of film score since “Raiders of the Lost Ark”.
All in all, the premiere was a fitting send-off for one of cinema’s great franchise.
“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” hits theaters on June 30.
