May 25th featured the release of an iconic Disney cartoon, the opening of a Disneyland classic, and the release of a new Star Wars film. So, let’s get started!
Mickey’s Revue Released (1932)
On this day in 1932, the Mickey Mouse cartoon Mickey’s Revue was released.
In the cartoon, Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, and Horace Horsecollar put on a big show. The cartoon also featured the official debut of Goofy, who went by the name Dippy Dawg.
The Three Little Pigs Premieres (1933)
On this day in 1933, The Three Little Pigs premiered at Radio City Music Hall.
The widely popular Silly Symphony would go on to become one of Walt’s biggest early successes.
The Cookie Carnival Released (1935)
On this day in 1935, The Cookie Carnival was released.
The cartoon was a retelling of Cinderella, about a cookie girl who wishes to be the queen of the Cookie Carnival.
Davy Crockett- King of the Wild Frontier Released (1955)
On this day in 1955, Davy Crockett- King of the Wild Frontier was released.
The film was a packaging of the first three episodes of the Davy Crockett television serial.
Country & Western Spectacular Kicks Off (1973)
On this day in 1973, Walt Disney World’s Country & Western Spectacular kicked off for the first of three days at the Magic Kingdom.
On hand for the event were Anne Murray, Faron Young, and Freddie Hart.
Pinocchio’s Daring Journey Opens (1983)
On this day in 1983, Pinocchio’s Daring Journey officially opened in Disneyland.
The attraction features Jiminy Cricket guiding guests through various scenes from the movie.
Here Comes The Muppets Opens (1990)
On this day in 1990, Here Come the Muppets opened at the Disney-MGM Studios.
The live-action and puppet show further increased the presence of the Muppets in the park.
Expanded Orlando Animation Studio Opens (1998)
On this day in 1998, the newly expanded Disney Orlando Animation Studio opened at the Disney-MGM Studios.
The new “Magic of Disney Animation” tour now included an expanded viewing area where guests are able to meet Disney animation artists.
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End Opens (2007)
On this day in 2007, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End opened.
The third film in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, At World’s End, saw Elizabeth Swann, Will Turner, and the crew of the Black Pearl rescue Jack Sparrow from Davy Jones’s Locker.
Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island Opens (2007)
Also on this day in 2007, Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island officially opened.
The updated Tom Sawyer Island featured new references to the Pirates of the Caribbean film series.
The Mickey Mouse Revue Closes (2009)
On this day in 2009, The Mickey Mouse Revue closed at Tokyo Disneyland.
The Audio-Animatronic attraction had been open for nearly 26 years.
Solo: A Star Wars Story Released (2018)
On this day in 2018, Solo: A Star Wars Story was released.
Featuring Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, the film centered on a young Han Solo, before his time in the Rebellion.
