What Does Disney’s Live Action ‘The Little Mermaid’ Have to Do with the Royals?
Disney’s Live-Action The Little Mermaid film hasn’t even debuted yet, but there’s already some drama bubbling beneath the surface. According to an article from The List, Disney’s new film seems to throw shade at Kate Middleton.

The Little Mermaid premieres in theaters on May 26. So far, fan reactions have been mixed, as photos surfaced of reimagined characters like Flounder, Sebastian, and Scuttle.
Ariel is played by singer-songwriter Halle Bailey. Apparently, Bailey’s reaction in one portion of the film drew the attention of reviewers.
In one particular scene, after Ariel’s voice is taken away, Prince Eric tries to guess her name. Interestingly, his speculations include “Diana”, followed by “Catherine.”

After hearing the latter, Ariel reportedly makes a “horrified expression.” Meghan Markle famously referenced Disney’s animated The Little Mermaid in the past, drawing comparisons to her own story with Prince Harry.
In their interview with Oprah, she shared, “I was sitting in Nottingham cottage and The Little Mermaid came on, and I went, ‘Oh my God she falls in love with the prince and because of that she loses her voice’.”

The List reports that throughout the film there are similarities between Ariel and Prince Eric, and Meghan and Prince Harry. Sadly, the media continues to pit Markle against Middleton.
So much so, fans have become divisive, asking if others are Team Meghan or Team Kate. There’s been no shortage of TikTok videos setting one on a pedestal while throwing shade at the other.

Ariel’s reaction could very well be blown out of proportion. Perhaps her grimace was just a response to an incorrect guess, although the choice of names does call for speculation.
We’ll see where the general consensus lands among fans when Disney’s Live Action The Little Mermaid debuts in a little over a week.
