Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of the Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- April 30.
April 30th featured a preview of the Disney-MGM Studios, the opening of a Hong Kong Disneyland hotel, and guest’s return to Disneyland. So, let’s get started!
Ozzie The Mounted Released (1928)
On this day in 1928, the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit short Ozzie the of the Mounted was released.
In the cartoon, Oswald is a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and goes in pursuit of Peg-Leg Pete.
The Bone Bandit Released (1948)
On this day in 1948, the Pluto short the Bone Bandit was released.
Disney-MGM Studios Grand Opening Airs (1989)
On this day in 1989, The Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park Grand Opening aired.
Hosted by John Ritter, the TV special gave viewers a sneak peek of the Disney-MGM Studios, which would open the next day.
The Astro Orbiter Opens (1994)
On this day in 1994, The Astro Orbiter opened in the Magic Kingdom.
A new version of the park’s Star Jets attraction, The Astro Orbiter opened as part of New Tomorrowland.
Disneyland Tickets Become Printable (2007)
On this day in 2007, Disney allowed Disneyland Resort tickets to be purchased online.
Guests could now print their tickets at home bring them to the park.
British Invasion Leave Epcot (2011)
On this day in 2011, the British Invasion performed their last show at Epcot.
The band had performed their Beatles tribute act at the park since 1996.
Motorcity Premiers (2012)
On this day in 2012, Motorcity premiered on Disney XD.
The show told the story of a futuristic Detroit that had been transformed into “Detroit Deluxe” by a evil billionaire.
The Carnation Plaza Gardens Closes (2012)
Also on this day in 2012, the Carnation Plaza Gardens closed at Disneyland.
Open since 1956, Carnation Plaza featured live entertainment, food stalls, and was home to Date Nite at Disneyland.
Disney Explorer Lodge Opens (2017)
On this day in 2017, the Disney Explorer Lodge opened at Hong Kong Disneyland.
The hotel is themed after the tropical climates of Asia, Oceania, South America, and Africa.
Disneyland Reopens (2021)
On this day in 2021, Disneyland reopened following a year long closure due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
Although the park had limited capacity and some attraction restrictions, guests finally returned to the Happiest Place on Earth.
