Office of Ron DeSantis Issues Response to Disney Lawsuit
In case you missed it, Disney has filed a lawsuit against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in response to the State of Florida’s allegedly “relentless campaign to weaponize government power against Disney in retaliation for expressing a political viewpoint unpopular with certain State officials.”
This lawsuit follows the dissolution of the Reedy Creek Improvement District, the subsequent launch of the DeSantis-led Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, Disney’s agreement to retain control over the land made prior to the takeover, and the board’s vote to null and void said agreement. Now the office of DeSantis has issued a response.

Communications Director for Governor Ron DeSantis, Taryn Fenske, has issued a response to the lawsuit:
“We are unaware of any legal right that a company has to operate its own government or maintain special privileges not held by other businesses in the state. The lawsuit is yet another unfortunate example of their hope to undermine the will of the Florida voters and operate outside the bounds of the law.”
In the lawsuit, Disney argues that the State of Florida has committed a “violation of Disney’s federal constitutional rights,” vowing to defend the company “against a State weaponizing its power to inflict political punishment.”
Disney also acknowledges its resources that allow the company to “take a stand against the State’s retaliation,” while smaller businesses and individuals may not have the same opportunities.
