This Disney Conservation Fund Coin is Cool & Helps A Great Cause
The history of Disney’s Animal Kingdom is intricately connected to the idea of conservation.
Right from the announcement of the park over 25 years ago, then-CEO Michael Eisner and a team of Imagineers led by Joe Rohde made it clear that conservation was at the heart of what Disney’s Animal Kingdom was all about.
When the park was announced in 1995, Eisner talked about the unique opportunity that Disney had to inspire and educate.
“This is to the traditional zoo as the motion picture was to the stage play. A leap forward that keeps the concept of combining education and entertainment alive and well. The need for awareness of endangered animals and their environments has never been greater. We are in a unique position to promote deeper understanding and love for all animals,” he said.

Disney Launches The Conservation Fund
That same year, in preparation for the new park, Disney launched the Disney Conservation Fund.
That organization’s goal is to “support nonprofit organizations to reverse the decline of wildlife by combining research and community engagement. And to increase the time kids spend in nature. Leading to happier, healthier kids who are inspired to care about the planet.”

The tandem effort between Disney’s Animal Kingdom and the Disney Conservation Fund has now been growing strong for over a quarter decade, and it is showing no signs of slowing down.
New Conservation Fund Coin
In fact, when visiting Island Mercantile at Animal Kingdom today, we found that the store is selling a new Disney Conservation Fund antique bronze coin.
The front of the coin features various Disney animals that have played a part in the history of Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Characters from Finding Nemo, A Bugs Life, The Lion King, Tarzan, Brother Bear, The Jungle Book, and Up all decorate the front of the coin.
Disney has long used their memorable characters to raise awareness about the importance of conservation, and this coin is no exception.
Here is a closer look at the design.
The back of the coin is engraved with the Disney Conservation Fund logo. This includes silhouettes of a plethora of animals.

The coin also features the Conservation Fund logo
I should also mention that this coin comes in a nice case, with a certificate of verification from the conservation fund.
Where To Get One
If you want to pick up a Disney Conservation Fund coin, be sure to swing by Island Merchantile on your next trip to Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Finally, I should note that all proceeds from the sales of these coins go toward the Disney Conservation Fund. So, not only are you getting a really great souvenir, but you are supporting a good cause.
