April 19th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured a milestone for Disneyland, the loss of a Disney Legend, and the premiere of a cult-favorite film. So, let’s get going!
Disneyland Welcomes It’s 25-Millionth Guest
On this day in 1961, Dr. Glenn C. Franklin of San Diego, California became Disneyland’s 25-millionth guest.
Franklin, along with his mother, wife, and three children, received a guided tour of the park, and unlimited use of all the park’s attractions.
Disney Legend Milt Kahl Passes Away (1987)
On this day in 1987, Disney Legend Milt Kahl passed away.
Kahl was one of Walt Disney’s “Nine Old Men”, and worked on films such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Cinderella, Mary Poppins, and the Jungle Book.
My Date With The President’s Daughter Premieres (1998)
On this day in 1998, My Date With The President’s Daughter premiered on The Wonderful World of Disney.
Starring Will Friedle and Elisabeth Harnois, the film tells the story of a teenager named Duncan who unwittingly falls in love with the daughter of the President of the United States.
Johnny and the Sprites Ends (2008)
On this day in 2008, Johnny and the Sprites aired its final episode on the Disney Channel.
The children’s program began airing in 2005 as a part of Playhouse Disney.
Space Mountain Closes For Refurbishment (2009)
On this day in 2009, Walt Disney World’s Space Mountain closed for a major refurbishment.
During the refurbishment, the attraction received a new track, an updated queue, and a new ceiling. It was the first time the ride had been extensively renovated since it opened in 1975.
