Disney Pulls All Theatrical Releases From Russia Due To Ukraine Invasion
Disney is taking some bold steps- they will be temporarily removing all theatrical releases from Russia in response to the invasion of Ukraine.
“Given the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and the tragic humanitarian crisis, we are pausing the release of theatrical films in Russia, including the upcoming Turning Red from Pixar,” said Disney in a statement this afternoon. “We will make future business decisions based on the evolving situation. In the meantime, given the scale of the emerging refugee crisis, we are working with our NGO partners to provide urgent aid and other humanitarian assistance to refugees.”
It has not been said how long this ban will go on, but Disney will be most definitely be losing out on a lot of money if it lasts into the summer with the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on May 6, 2022.
Spider-Man: No Way Home grossed $45million just in Russia alone when it debuted. Disney made $445M at the box office last year in Russia and as much as $1.3 billion in 2013.
MickeyBlog will get an eye on this situation.
