April 16th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured a new Donald Duck cartoon, the opening of a Walt Disney World resort, and the premiere of a new Disney+ show. So, let’s get started!
Ride ‘Em Plow Boy Released (1928)
On this day in 1928, the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit short Ride ‘Em Plow Boy was released.
Mother Goose Melodies Released (1931)
On this day in 1931, Mother Goose Melodies was released.
In the cartoon, Mother Goose characters come to life to entertain Old King Cold.
Daddy Duck Released (1948)
On this day in 1948, Daddy Duck was released.
In the cartoon, Donald Duck plays father to a baby kangaroo named Joey.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Opens (2001)
On this day in 2001, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge opened.
The newest Walt Disney World resort was based on tn a South African game reserve lodge.
The resort features a 33-acre wildlife preserve, where guests can see more than 30 species of wildlife.
Disneyland Trains Switch to Bio Fuel (2007)
On this day in 2007, Disney announced that Disneyland’s fleet of trains had been converted from diesel to bio fuel.
The switch saved as much as 150,000 gallons of diesel fuel each year. It also reduced potential carbon dioxide emissions by up to 80 percent.
Big Shot Premieres (2021)
Finally, on this day in 2021, Big Shot premiered on Disney+.
The series followed a temperamental basketball coach who loses his job and ends up coaching an elite girls private high school.
