New Acts Added to Cirque du Soleil “Drawn to Life” at Disney Springs
Drawn to Life, the Disney-themed Cirque du Soleil show at Disney Springs in Disney World is relatively new but it has just received some exciting updates. Drawn to Life made its Disney Springs debut in November 2021.
Acts have changed since the show first opened in two years ago but the story remains the same. Drawn to Life follows a young girl named Julie who goes on a journey when she finds an unfinished piece of animation left by her later father, who was a Disney animator.
But Cirque du Soliel has had some recent updates including a new acrobatic act called Icarnian Games to the show and modified an original act to include some new aerial hoop artists. These new acts made their debut yesterday (August 13, 2023)
Though we’ve yet to see the new updates a recent piece on Spectrum News 13 gives us a brief description of some of the changes Cirque du Soleil audiences can expect.
In the Icarian Games section, two performers juggle their partners with their feet. The performers wear costumes depicting woodland creatures which is a tip-of-the-hat Disney animated classic like Bambi. This act also comes with a new musical composition sung by a live vocalist.
Spectrum News tells us that additional changes have been made to the original Drawn to Life score but they are subtle and the music still strikes that perfect balance between Disney and Cirque du Soleil magic!
Changes were also made to the Dream of Colors act. The act pays homage to the female ink and paint artists that had such a crucial role in the early days of Disney animation. This act features trapeze artists and after the recent updates, they are now joined by a trio of aerial hoop artists. “One of the big picture things we realized is we didn’t have a lot of aerial stuff in the show,” said artistic director Tim Bennett. “And it’s a big open space. So after watching the show for a while, we thought, ’ It feels empty in some spots, especially that particular act. The acrobatics is all the way upstage.”
Small tweaks and adjustments to Cirque du Soleil productions are not uncommon. The creative team will often look at ways to update the show to keep it fresh and exciting.
Performances of Drawn to Life take place on Wednesdays through Saturdays at 5:30pm and 8pm. There are also two Sunday performances at 1:30pm and 4pm.
