This Day in Disney History- March 16
Welcome back to our continuing trip through the history of the Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- March 16.
March 16th featured the release of a classic Disney film, the debut of a Magic Kingdom attraction, and the opening of a new Disney Park. So, let’s get into it!
Mickey’s Service Station Released (1936)
On this day in 1936, Mickey’s Service Station was released.
In the cartoon, mechanics Mickey, Donald, and Goofy have ten minutes to fix Pete’s car.
Dog Watch Released (1945)
On this day in 1945, the Pluto short Dog Watch was released.
Directed by Charles Nichols, the cartoon finds Pluto guarding a ship from a rat who is determined to steal the boat’s food.
The Absent-Minded Professor Released (1961)
On this day in 1961, The Absent-Minded Professor was released.
Starring Fred MacMurray and Nancy Olsen, the film tells the story of a physical chemistry professor at Medfield College who creates “flying rubber” or Flubber.
Magic Carpet ‘Round The World Opens (1974)
On this day in 1974, Magic Carpet ‘Round the World opened in the Magic Kingdom.
The attraction replaced America the Beautiful in Tomorrowland’s Circle-Vision Theater.
Walt Disney Studios Park Opens (2002)
Finally, on this day in 2002, Walt Disney Studios Park opened at Disneyland Paris.
The 10th Disney theme park, attractions opening with the park included Rock ‘n Roller Coaster, Lights, Motors Action!, Flying Carpets Over Agrabah and the Studio Tram Tour.
