This Day in Disney History- March 5
Welcome back to our magical trip through Disney’s past. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- March 5.
March 5th was a busy day in Disney history. It featured the release of an Oswald cartoon, the debut of an EPCOT Center classic, and also the premiere of a popular live-action film. So, let’s get started shall we?
Rival Romeos Debuts (1928)
On this day in 1928, the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit short Rival Romeos was released.
The short was released just as negotiations between Charles Mintz and Walt Disney over the character’s future broke down.
The Mad Dog Released (1932)
On this day in 1932, the Mickey Mouse short The Mad Dog was released.
In cartoon, Pluto swallows soap while taking a bath. Because of his soapy drool, everyone thinks he has gone mad.
Donald’s Diary Released (1954)
On this day in 1954, the Donald Duck short Donald’s Diary was released.
In the cartoon, Donald writes in his diary, and recaps, his romance with Daisy.
Journey Into Imagination Opens (1983)
On this day in 1983, the Journey Into Imagination attraction opened in EPCOT Center.
The fan favorite attraction featured Dreamfinder and his friend Figment, who explored the wonders of Imagination.
The Secret Life of Toys Debuts (1994)
On this day in 1994, Jim Henson’s Secret Life of Toys began airing on the Disney Channel.
The show would only last for 13 episodes.
Alice in Wonderland is Released (2010)
On this day in 2010, Alice in Wonderland was released.
The film was based on the Lewis Carroll novels “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking-Glass”. It starred Johnny Depp and Anne Hathaway.
Robert Sherman Passes Away (2012)
On this day in 2012, Robert B. Sherman passed away at the age of 86.
Sherman was one half of the famous Sherman Brothers, and wrote memorable songs for Disney’s Mary Poppins and The Jungle Book. The Sherman Brothers also penned songs for Disney’s parks, including “it’s a small world”.
Star Wars Rebels Ends (2018)
On this day in 2018, Star Wars Rebels aired its final episode.
The popular Star Wars animated series concluded with “Family Reunion and Farewell”. The show had been airing since 2014.
Carousel of the Sea Closes (2018)
Also on this day in 2018, King Triton’s Carousel of the Sea closed at Disney’s California Adventure.
Located at Paradise Pier, the carousel featured colorful sea creatures who spin to a a calliope playing classic Boardwalk songs.
Raya and the Last Dragon Premiers (2021)
Finally, on this day in 2021, Raya and the Last Dragon premiered.
The film told the story of a warrior named Raya, who is determined to find the last living dragon. The film was released in theaters and on Disney + simultaneously.
