Welcome back to our journey through the magical history of the Walt Disney Company! Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- January 30.
January 30th featured a seminal moment in Pixar history, the debut of an EPCOT classic, and the opening of a new store at Disney Springs. So, let’s get into it!
All About Magic Airs (1957)
On this day in 1957, the Disneyland television series aired the episode “All About Magic”.
The episode was hosted by Walt himself, as well as the Magic Mirror. The installment featured Disney shorts having to do with magic.
Pixar is Incorporated (1986)
On this day in 1986 Steve Jobs bought the computer graphics division of Industrial Light and Magic from George Lucas.
After making the $10 million dollar purchase, Jobs would incorporate the new company as Pixar.
Alice In Wonderland Days Begins (1971)
On this day in 1971, Disney hosted the first of two Alice in Wonderland Days.
For the special event, guests could meet Alice, the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, and the Walrus at the Alpine Gardens.
Alice in Wonderland Days also featured two special parades.
IllumiNations Debuts (198)
On this day in 1988, IllumiNations debuted a EPCOT Center.
The park’s new nighttime spectacular featured special effects, fireworks, and music.
101 Dalmatians: The Series Debuts Syndication
On this day in 1998, 101 Dalmatians: The Series premiered in syndication.
The show was originally developed for ABC as part of Disney’s One Saturday Morning. It would eventually be broadcast on the Disney Channel, Toon Disney, and Disney Junior.
The M&M Store Opens (2021)
Finally, on this day in 2021, the M&M Store opened at Disney Springs.
Located between Splitsville and the NBA Experience, the new store is one of six M&M locations worldwide.
