Disney Has Ordered a Phineas and Ferb Revival!
The boys are back! Disney announced today that it has ordered a revival of the popular animated series Phineas and Ferb from original series creator Dan Povenmire.
The series revival will be a part of Povenmire’s new overall deal with Disney Branded Television. 40 new episodes of the beloved animated series will be produced over the course of two new seasons.
“It has been the greatest pleasure of my career to see how an entire generation of kids and parents have embraced the characters and the humor of ‘Phineas and Ferb,’” Povenmire said. “I’m eagerly looking forward to diving back into the show for them and for a whole new generation.”
A Cult Classic
For those who don’t know, Phineas and Ferb was a wildly popular animated series that ran from 2007 until 2015. The show centers on two step brothers, Phineas Flynn and Ferb Fletcher. The duo attempt to seize each day of summer vacation by embarking on a grand project, much to the chagrin of their sister Candace.
Best remembered for its offbeat humor and catch songs, Phineas and Ferb has retained large cult following.
This is not the first time that Phineas and Ferb have returned to television screens. Following the end of the series’ run, the franchise was revived for the 2019 film Candace Against the Universe. That film was was a major hit on Disney +
A Bright Future
As part of Povenmire’s new deal, his current project, Hamster & Gretel, will also return for a second season.
“Dan is renowned for his ability to create universally beloved stories and characters with both heart and humor,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television. “We couldn’t be happier to continue our collaboration with him and bring back the iconic ‘Phineas and Ferb’ in a big way.”
While fellow Phineas and Ferb co-creator Jeff “Swampy” Marsh was not included in today’s announcements, sources say that Disney is working on securing his return.
