This Day in Disney History: December 22
Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of the Walt Disney Company! Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- December 22.
December 22nd was a slower day in Disney history, but we still had the debut of a Disney classic film, an exclusive show, and a new attraction at Epcot. Let’s get into it!
Mother Goose Goes to Hollywood (1938)
On this day in 1938, the Silly Symphony Mother Goose Goes Hollywood was released.
The new short re-imagines Hollywood stars as characters in Mother Goose stories. Among the featured celebrities are W.C. Fields as Humpty Dumpty, Laurel and Hardy as Simple Simon and Pieman, Kathrine Hepburn as Little Bo Peep and the Marx Brothers as Old King Cole’s fiddlers.
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Released (1954)
On this day in 1954, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was released.
Disney’s take on the classic Jules Verne Story, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, the new film starred Kirk Douglas, James Mason, and Peter Lorre.
La Nouba Opened (1998)
On this day in 1998, La Nouba opened at Downtown Disney.
The show was created specifically by Cirque du Soleil for Walt Disney World. Furthermore, the theater used to house the show was built specifically for Cirque du Soleil.
Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival Opened (2015)
Finally, on this day in 2015, the Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival officially opened in Epcot. The new show replaced Captain EO in the Imagination! pavilion’s Magic Eye Theater.
The new attraction showed three animated shorts- “Get a Horse”, “For the Birds”. and “La Luna”.
