It’s official! Walt Disney Records released the original Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi soundtrack. It is available now on Amazon and other major digital streaming services.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is a science fiction adventure starring Ewan McGregor. All six episodes of this Star Wars franchise spinoff are available to stream now on Disney+.
Obi-Wan Kenobi the Series
The series takes place ten years after Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and nine years before Episode IV – A New Hope. Deborah Chow is the director.
In the show, we find the title character and Jedi master (McGregor) in hiding on Tatooine. His mission there is to protect Luke Skywalker (Grant Feely) from the Inquisitors.
Eventually, Kenobi has to leave Tatooine to rescue the kidnapped Princess Leia. (Vivien Lyra Blair) Above all, he must avoid being seen by the Galactic Empire and his former apprentice, Darth Vader. (Hayden Christensen)
The Soundtrack
The Obi-Wan Kenobi soundtrack’s score maintains a light and classic Star Wars feel. However, it also brings a mood and depth to the series. Because of this, the show is a darker version of the Star Wars universe in comparison to say The Mandalorian.
Emmy nominated, Natalie Holt, composed the music for the series with William Ross and John Williams. Holt is the main composer for the Obi-Wan Kenobi soundtrack. Additionally, she is the first woman to ever score a live Star Wars production.
Also, Holt has an accomplished, award-winning career. Notably, her first Disney project was the acclaimed 2021 Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series, Loki.
Legendary composer, John Williams created dozens of iconic scores for the Star Wars franchise. In this case, he composed the Obi-Wan Kenobi main theme. It is the first track on the album.
Remarkably, most of Williams’ iconic Star Wars tracks are not included in the show. In response, Natalie Holt says she must “[strike] the right balance been the old and new.” In the end, she wasn’t trying to emulate Williams’ work but still wanted to have that legendary Star Wars vibe.
