How, When, and WHY You Should Watch ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’
Obi-Wan Kenobi is the newest, highly-anticipated chapter in the Star Wars saga. Set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, the series promises to fill in the blanks of the mysterious life of ‘Ben Kenobi’ after order 66.
We’ve compiled everything you need to know about the new show- like when and why you should watch- so let’s jump to lightspeed and get right into it!
How to Watch
Obi Wan-Kenobi will stream exclusively on Disney+, where all iterations of the Star Wars films and series currently live! Disney+ is home to every single theatrically released Star Wars films, and it also plays host to the popular spinoff shows The Mandalorian, and The Book of Boba Fett. Disney+ is the place to go to re-watch all of Obi-Wan’s story ahead of the new series release!
When to Watch
Obi-Wan Kenobi will premier on May 27th! The series is limited and is set to feature just 6 episodes, on a weekly basis. Don’t worry if you’re a fan of binge-watching shows, we’re going to be treated to the first TWO episodes on May 27th!
Pair the release with a long holiday weekend, and we’ve got the perfect recipe for watching (and re-watching) the first few episodes.
Why Watch?
Obi-Wan is in no danger of dying in the series, because we know Obi-Wan’s demise comes at the hands of Darth Vader in Episode V (if I spoiled that for you, you’ve had 40 years…). The lure of this series is not in the stakes, but in the story…and the role reprisals!
Hayden Christensen (Anakin in the prequels) has signed on to reprise his role as Darth Vader in the series! Fans everywhere are hoping for a lightsaber battle half as epic as the Kenobi/Vader matchup in Episode III!
John Williams’ legendary music is as important to the films as any character, and he too is making a return for the new series! He penned the brand-theme song for the show.
What happened to Obi-Wan during those pivotal years? He was one of the very few Jedi who survived order 66, so what must his life have been like while Palpatine was hunting him down? Did he keep a watchful eye over Luke? What led him to fully abandon his Jedi name and go into hiding under the pseudonym “Ben”? All of these questions and more are great reasons to watch the limited series unfold- coming to Disney+ on May 27!
