Doc McStuffins Celebrates 10th Anniversary
Happy birthday to Doc McStuffins! Ten years ago, Doc and her toys debuted on Disney Junior and quickly became the number one preschool show in the U.S.
In the series, Doc McStuffins, a six-year-old girl dreams of becoming a doctor just like her mom. So, she takes care of the boo-boos and other ailments of her toy friends in need.
It’s clear where Doc gets her smarts and her caring nature. Her parents are strong, positive role models for both Doc and her brother, Donny.
First Show of It’s Kind
At the time, Doc McStuffins was the first animated preschool series to star a Black female leading character. Later in the show, it also became one of the first animated series with LGBTQ+ characters.
Doc McStuffins ran for five seasons making it one of the longest running Disney shows at the time before ending in 2020.
With unexpected but relatable plot lines like adoption and hit songs such as “Wash Your Hands”, it’s no wonder the series remains a fan favorite.
The overarching message of Doc McStuffins is not only about taking the fear out of doctor visits for children but also the idea of individuality and being yourself.
Series Accolades
The series deserves a celebration because of the lasting impression it has made on so many children. The show inspired “We Are Doc McStuffins.” This is a group of African American female physicians who joined forces to inspire children to pursue medical careers.
In 2018, a Geena Davis Institute survey found that, out of a group of 900 girls, 50% were inspired by the series to pursue a STEM career.
10th Anniversary Celebration
To celebrate the 10th anniversary, Disney Junior aired a Doc McStuffins marathon earlier this year. And in March of 2022, Disney Junior released a digital single called “The Doc Is 10!” sung by Laya DeLeon Hayes.
Undoubtedly, Doc McStuffins holds a special place in the hearts of millions of fans all over the world. Her stories continue to pull at our heartstrings and inspire us to reach for the stars. Or our stethoscopes for that matter!
Happy 10th anniversary, Doc McStuffins! May your stories continue to inspire children for another decade. The Doc is in!
