HUGE Progress on Tron Coaster Canopy
If you’ve been following along with us here at MickeyBlog, you’ll know that we’re coming to you LIVE from the Magic Kingdom this morning where HUGE amounts of progress have been made on the TRON coaster since we last dropped by.
For those unfamiliar, this is Magic Kingdom’s latest coaster and is inspired by the tech-heavy aesthetic of the TRON films.
It is located between Space Mountain and Tomorrowland Speedway in Magic Kingdom.
It will have booth indoor elements and outdoor features as guests soar underneath a giant canopy which will be illuminated to make you feel as if you’re soaring through cyberspace!
Last time we dropped by to check out the progress on the coaster, canopy panels had just started to be put into place.
Over the course of the last few days, this is really taking shape.
This is the first time that we can really get a feel for what this attraction will look like once completed.
The ride is also based on the popular TRON Lightcycle Power/Run which is a HUGE headlining attraction at Shanghai Disney.
Rather than traditional coaster cars, guests will climb onto what looks like space-aged cycles to race through the virtual world!
As you can see, giant white panels will cover all of the curves of the outdoor canopy.
We took the image below from the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover giving us incredible sightlines of the work being carried out on one of the canopies.
You can see the white tarp-line panels going into place. d
From the image above you can see that there is still a lot of work to be carried out to the area.
The construction of the TRON coaster is the reason that the Walt Disney World Railroad has been shut for over a year.
The tracks for the railroad were removed for coaster construction. They’ll be put back into place once work on the TRON coaster is completed.
We get asked a lot where the best places to go are to see the construction and we have a few favorites.
The first is on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover. Due to the raised platform, you can get really gorgeous views.
The spectators’ area of the Tomorrowland Speedway also has great sightlines.
Another great spot is just beyond the Barnstormer in Storybook Circus.
We’ll continue to track the progress of the TRON coaster so keep checking back in with us.
At the moment Disney has yet to reveal an opening date for the attraction.
Where hoping they’ll reveal their plans for the ride soon.
Below you can see that a whole section of the canopy is completed.
Readers are encouraged to keep following along with MickeyBlog for updates on this and other Walt Disney World attractions.
We’ll also be coming to you LIVE! from the theme parks throughout Valentine’s Day weekend!
