Baby Babirusa Makes Animal Kingdom Debut
Adding to its abundant list of animal births over the past few months, Disney’s Animal Kingdom welcomed yet another new arrival to The Oasis habitats recently. Nutmeg, the six-month-old babirusa piglet, emerged in her new home at peaceful space just inside of the theme park.
The shady trails of The Oasis first greet guests to Disney’s Animal Kingdom as they weave their way through tropical foliage and relaxing waterfalls. Nutmeg joins a family of babirusa pigs that includes another recently born piglet, the first born at the theme park.

Nutmeg, like so many of the animals born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, represents another success for the park in their efforts to assist with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan. The program works with zoos across the nation to maintain breeding practices to help species at risk of extinction.
Due to habitat destruction in their native Indonesia, babirusa continue to face challenges to the species’ survival. The adventures in breeding this unique animal featured in “The Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom,” an original series on Disney+ that first premiered in September 2020.
