Mardi Gras Countdown on in New Orleans Square
A stroll through Royal Street, a quaint and eclectic path through New Orleans Square at Disneyland, always transports guests to the energy and soul of “The Big Easy.” With only five weeks to go until this year’s Mardi Gras celebration, the area also already finds itself decorated in honor of the Louisiana city’s largest annual celebration.
With vibrant metallic colored masks hanging from lampposts and balconies, Royal Street truly comes alive each year to prepare for the Fat Tuesday celebration. Reminiscent of Brazil’s Carnival, Mardi Gras both at Disneyland and in New Orleans marks the day prior to Lent with wonderfully over-the-top parties and experiences.
Traditional New Orleans festival colors of bright greens and vibrant purples also pop in decorations throughout the space in “the happiest place on Earth.” Of course, a plethora of beads also dazzle throughout the decor. Beads also continue to be a staple of the holiday’s traditional parades.
A number of balconies display music stands full of notes and instruments in a nod to New Orlean’s soulful jazz culture.
Whether traveling to New Orleans Square for its most popular attraction (The Pirates of the Caribbean call this space home) or for a taste of the delicious Monte Cristo at Blue Bayou, a saunter through the area is a must-do right now.
This year’s displays include a number of delightful jesters clearly enjoying the festivities as well.
Mardi Gras Events Abound
In year’s past, the Disneyland Mardi Gras celebration includes one of the city’s most famous Disney residents, Tiana, as well as Prince Naveen. Mickey and Minnie Mouse have also stopped by the festivities that include rousing entertainment and, of course, beignets.
Stay tuned for more information as it is released regarding this year’s festivities. With Lunar New Year celebrations underway now, it is only a matter of time before Disney shares all of this year’s Mardi Gras extras.
