Press Event in Mexico to Celebrate Disney Cruise Line’s New Yucatan Port
With Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship the Disney Wish taking over the popular Bahamian sailings starting next Summer, it frees up some of the other ships in the fleet to add so new sailings and ports of call to their repertoire. One of the new places on the itinerary for Western Caribbean sailings is the Port of Progreso in Mexico.
At a special press event held yesterday (December 27, 2021) the Port of Progreso welcomed the Disney Wonder! The Wonder docked in the International Cruise Terminal at Progreso’s Height Port.
During the event, the Captain of the Disney Wonder was quick to highlight that bringing Disney Cruise Line to the Yucatan would not have been possible without the support of the Governor of Yucatan who welcomed Disney Cruise Line with open arms.
“On behalf of my crew, I tell you that it is an honor to bring the Disney Wonder cruise ship to Progreso; It was wonderful to arrive sailing this morning and we are excited to come to this port, knowing everything there is to see and do for our guests, whether they visit Chichén Itzá, decide to explore the crystal clear waters of the cenotes of the region and we know that our guests are going to enjoy exploring the state, ” he assured.
The Governor also spoke and pointed out what a momentous occasion this was highlighting that Disney Cruise Line is an enviable options for any port! Now that the epidemiological traffic light at the port is green, it ushers in a great moment in tourism for the Yucatan. The Governor said of the endeavor, “ We have a remodeled International Boardwalk, new tourist attractions, a beach that is certified as clean and this is only a little of what is coming because the last stage of the Malecón remodeling we are going to start in January ”.
Activities officially resumed at the port in July and since that time, 21 cruise ships have arrived in Progreso. The Disney Wonder arrived at the terminal at 7:56 am carrying 1,380 passengers along with a crew of 962. The ship came from Galveston and sailed to the island of Cozumel before including Progreso in this 4-night Western Caribbean sailing. The cruise stayed at Progreso yesterday until 6pm before it started its return trip to Galveston.
For those wondering about safety protocols, once at port, Friends of Health provided passengers with antibacterial gel and face masks.
Lookin forward to 2023, both the Disney Wonder and Disney Magic will now make stops at Progreso. This is typically on 4-night itineraries to the Western Caribbean from either New Orleans or Galveston.
