AAA Names Disneyland and Disney World Most Popular Holiday Season Destinations
According to recent figures released by AAA, 109 million Americans will be traveling between Christmas a New Year’s Day. It’s an increase of 34% from 2020.
Thought a popular misconception is that this is a quiet time to visit the theme parks, it couldn’t be further from the truth. That period between Christmas and New Year’s is one of the busiest times of the year to visit both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

This is backed up by a recent report from AAA that suggests that booking trends recorded back in October suggest that the two most popular places to travel for a destination Christmas were Orlando, Florida and Anaheim, California.
In case you’re curious, here’s a look at the other 9 most popular destinations (in order of popularity) released by AAA for the 2021 holiday season:
- Las Vegas
- New York City
- Maui
- Honolulu
- Miami
- Fort Lauderdale, Florida
- Tampa, Florida
- Phoenix
- San Diego
Fox News sites one of the reasons for increased travel is the easing up of restrictions including facemask policies. However, it should be noted that many popular travel locations (like Disney) do enforce an indoor mask policy.
If you’ll remember, last year, out-of-state travel was restricted in California and Disneyland Resort did not reopen its gates until April of this year! Now word yet on what impact the Omicron variant will have on travel to both Disneyland and Disney World in the new year. If you are traveling this holiday season or will be in public, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend wearing a mask, washing your hands frequently, and avoiding large gatherings. For those visiting the theme parks in the weeks ahead also allow yourselves extra time to get to and from the parks, and arrive earlier in the day to weather the heavy crowds!
