Disney Bags IMAX
A dear friend of mine used to work at IMAX, and something that always stood out to me was how much pride he took in his work.
For those less familiar with the business, IMAX uses a proprietary system of unique cameras and film projectors.

These technologically advanced devices afford superior picture quality for a film, albeit at a high price.
Few Hollywood projects actually film in the IMAX format, instead utilizing a later conversion technique to save money.

A long time ago, The Dark Knight filmed several of its scenes, including the opening heist, in IMAX. It was such a big deal that IMAX exhibited a sneak with this scene attached to another film.
The box office for that movie soared thanks to the appeal of an IMAX version of even part of The Dark Knight.
Since then, IMAX has remained an exclusive, high-end version of theatrical exhibition…until now.
Folks, I don’t know how they did it, but Disney has persuaded IMAX to enter the streaming media industry.
Experience the Marvel Cinematic Universe at home like never before with @IMAX's expanded aspect ratio coming to @DisneyPlus!

Starting tomorrow, Disney+ Day, subscribers can stream 13 Marvel movies in a new format called IMAX Enhanced.
The Benefits of This Service
According to Disney and IMAX, this display style will show 26 percent more of the picture on your television screen.

You may not realize this, but streamers and television stations have cropped part of the picture of almost all the movies you watch.
Due to the challenges of the 4:3 and 16:9 displays, the entire picture won’t fit.

With IMAX Enhanced, you’ll watch the films closer to the way the producers had intended them.
Here’s a list of the IMAX Enhanced titles:
- Ant-Man and the Wasp
- Avengers: Endgame
- Avengers: Infinity War
- Black Widow
- Black Panther
- Captain America: Civil War
- Captain Marvel
- Doctor Strange
- Guardians of the Galaxy
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
- Iron Man
- Thor: Ragnarok

Oh, and I’ve saved the best for last. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will debut with IMAX Enhanced. It’s enabled on day one!
You can watch the most successful movie of 2021 in an IMAX format on your living room TV tomorrow!
Also, this gives you an excuse to go TV shopping this holiday season!
A Big Week for TikToks
I haven’t posted as many TikToks and Disney lists lately, which friends have told me disappoints them.
Well, I’ve got good news! This week has included some dazzling options, including this TikTok:
@natstreich #stitch with @themagicalmillennial_ you can’t flash people on Dumbo miss ma’am ✋🙈 #disney #disneyparks #disneyworld #disneyland #disneysecrets
User natstreich answered questions from viewers of her feed. One asked about the strangest thing she experienced during her time as a cast member.
According to the former Disney employee, a woman celebrating her 50th birthday wanted to ride Dumbo the Flying Elephant with her two adult daughters.

The cast member did her due diligence even though she had to have suspected the three of them wouldn’t fit.
If you didn’t know, the rule on this attraction is that all guests in the Dumbo must fit under the same seatbelt. They…didn’t.

The birthday mom didn’t like this one bit and let the attraction worker know this as she switched ride carts.
Not content with her Karen-ing thus far, the birthday girl did something unexpected during her ride.

As she locked eyes with the cast member, she flashed the Disney College Program student.
Folks, you can’t do that. According to natstreich, she proceeded to stop the ride and notify her superiors.

The woman found herself kicked out of Disney and banned…on her birthday!
By the way, something else I love about TikTok is that former cast members often post Disney recipes. Here’s one for holiday fudge:
@yzma1587 Reposting the video that made me go viral! #fudge #christmas #disneycastmember
I’d leave out the marshmallows, because gross. If you prefer peanut butter fudge, there’s a recipe for that, too:
@yzma1587 Reply to @hmtz_flo Peanut Butter Fudge! Recipe in the comments & on bio page. #christmas #fudge
As for lists, here’s a not-at-all controversial one about the best Disney TV show theme songs.
In my opinion, #7 is ranked way too low, but they definitely got #1 right.
Speaking of Disney TV Shows
Speaking of Disney TV shows, Looper threw some salt on old wounds with this article.
The subject here is Hilary Duff, who famously starred in The Lizzie Maguire Show from 2001-2004.

Fans loved the show so much that Disney recently tried to reboot it as a streaming channel exclusive.
However, the project fell apart when the creator of the original series, Terri Minsky, delivered some new episodes that unpleasantly surprised Disney.

The mere attempt of a reboot caught entertainment analysts off-guard. As the story details, Duff and Disney infamously had a falling out.
Disney tends to pay its child stars as if they’re children rather than stars. After a few years, the actors and the people representing them get wise to these tactics.

If you’ve ever wondered why so few Disney Channels shows lasted past three seasons, there’s your explanation.
As the cast and production crew ask for pay increases, accountants notice shrinking profits and suggest cancellation.
The High Price of Lizzie Maguire
Duff’s situation proved particularly fascinating. At the time, the show appeared highly profitable.
Experts had suggested that Lizzie Maguire’s revenue approached $100 million after just two years.

Alas, Maguire’s team knew this and expressed frustration over what they considered lowball offers from Disney to continue the series.
The Lizzie Maguire Movie grossed more than triple its budget. So, the Duff family expected a raise. Instead, Disney countered with $35,000 per episode.

I realize this sounds like a lot for an actress who was 16/17 at the time of the movie and the show’s cancellation.
However, Duff had offers from other parties for triple that amount. Disney wouldn’t budge on the salary, causing Duff to prioritize her movie career.

This decision actually worked quite well at first, as Cheaper by the Dozen became a franchise that Disney+ will soon reboot.
Duff’s first attempt at a lead role, A Cinderella Story, also tripled its budget, hinting at possible stardom.

Alas, Duff’s next two major projects, The Perfect Man and Material Girls, failed at the box office. As a result, we really haven’t seen much of her since then.
So, she really needed that Lizzie Maguire reboot that never came to fruition. Ah well, we’ll always have reruns on Disney+.
