Universal Studios Hollywood Beats Disney as Most Expensive Theme Park According to Recent Study
An interesting article appeared in the OC Register this week that Universal Studios Hollywood has been singled out as the most expensive theme park in the world. By contrast, a new study from travel news website Etias.com said that Disneyland was ranked as the most affordable theme park in California.
According to the study, Universal Studios landed in the bottom spot primarily for offering the fewest rides for the money. The study estimated that when broken down guests were charged roughly $12.83 per ride.
At the moment this is almost 10 times the amount per ride then you’ll find at Disneyland.

So how does Universal Studios Hollywood stack up against Walt Disney World theme parks? According to the study, Universal was almost double the cost of Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida which came in at $7.37 per ride.
Disneyland continued to fair well in California due largely to the 55 rides that are included in the price of admission. It also meant that Disney California Adventure with 37 attractions also did favorably.

According to the OC Register, Disneyland also did favorably in two other categories: Rides that could be completed in an operating day (41) and the average wait time per ride (22 minutes.) Compare this to Universal Studios where according to the study shows that you can only complete 15 rides in a day with an average wait time of 43 minutes.

Though this study was an interesting read, we’re certainly curious to see future figures based on Disneyland and Disney World’s move to Genie+, a paid for system that replaces FastPasses. As of October 19th, guests pay $15 per person per day to access the Lightning Lane (formerly FastPass) for attractions. In addition, there are premium attractions that guests need to purchase a la carte with prices ranging from around $8 to $15+ depending on the attraction, day of the week and time of year.
We suspect this will definitely have an impact when it comes to cost per ride figures, particularly if a majority of visitors opt to use the service. However, it should also be noted that purchasing Genie+ is not mandatory and that guests can instead opt to wait in the longer Stand-By lines for attractions for no additional charge.
This is a story that we’ll continue to follow closely. Readers are encouraged to keep following along with us for further Walt Disney World news and updates!
