According to today’s press release from Disney Media, Emmy Award winner Tony Hale will return into his dual roles of protagonist Mr. Benedict and his twin Mr. Curtain, the antagonistic, conniving villain of the books’ plots.
“This show has been an absolute thrill to work on and I’m so thankful to the fans and Disney for the opportunity to keep telling this incredible story,” Hale said in the release. It also notes that filming will begin sometime early next year.
The next season will follow the quartet of adverterous heroes as they attempt to find Mr. Benedict and Number Two after they are captured by the evil Mr. Curtain. The miraculous journey pushes the kids to follow a series of clues left by the elusive Mr. Benedict while avoiding capture themselves. Led to an abandoned island, they not only realize where their helpful guides are stowed away but also Mr. Curtain’s next devilish scheme to take over the world.
In the second book, which the next season is based off of according to today’s press release, Kate and her father Milligan also explore their newfound relationship a bit more from the get-go of the story.
The series will again be led by creators and writers Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay at the helm. Showrunners Todd Slaving and Darren Swimmer will also produce.
“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to continue our journey into Trenton Lee Stewart’s witty, warm and wonderful world in a second season of ‘The Mysterious Benedict Society.’ This has already been such a special experience, thanks to our remarkable cast and collaborators. The belief that 20th Television and Disney+ have shown in our show and their commitment to its values of kindness, empathy and the celebration of different ways of being make this all very much a joy,” said the four in the release.
Produced by 20th Television in association with Halcyon Studios, Disney Branded Television also confirmed the return of the majority of the original series’ cast including the four sleuths with Mystic Inscho (Reynie), Emmy DeOliveira (Kate), Seth B. Carr (Sticky/George), and Marta Kessler (Constance).
Ryan Hurst (Milligan), Kristen Schaal (No. 2), MaameYaa Boafo (Rhonda) and Gia Sandhu (Mrs. Perumal) will also all appear in the second installment.
