Kali River Rapids Takes Annual Closure in November
Each year as the winter temperatures set into the Orlando area, Kali River Rapids at Disney’s Animal Kingdom closes for a few weeks of refurbishment during its slow season.
The popular water-based thrill ride takes brave adventurers on an incredibly wet rainforest trek. With waterfalls constantly challenging the path of the 12-person vessels, Kali River Rapids not only offers a chance to cool off on those balmy Florida afternoons but also packs a powerful thematic punch.

Annually, the plume ride receives a refurbishment in the winter. This season, the ride will close on November 1st. The current schedule shows Kali River Rapids reopening shortly therafter in December of this year. Usually, Disney’s Animal Kingdom waits to close down Kali River Rapids until after the Christmas holiday.
Another Shocking Animal Kingdom Refurbishment
However, with Expedition Everest suprisingly joining the refurbishment list today, it makes sense that Kali River Rapids will be closing early this season. The “Yeti” ride will be closed for a massive four months begining in January 2022, which suprised loyal fans today. It appears that the popular attraction be closed during the Spring Break rush of this year’s 50th anniversary celebrations. It will most likely also be closed during the first months of the new Disney Genie enhancement.

Though details are still emerging about both refurbishment projects, we do know that Kali River Rapids often requires work on its propelling systems and other engineering mechanisms.

Walt Disney World Resort guests are no stranger to refurbishments lately. All four theme parks as well as the resorts and even the water parks have undergone enormous transformations. In large part, these enhancements were to prepare the resort for “The World’s Most Magical Celebration.”
The resort’s 50th anniversary celebration begins on Oct. 1st with two new nigthtime spectaculars premeiring at Magic Kingdom and EPCOT as well as a daytime show debuting at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Amongst the largest transformations, Cinderella Castle and all of Fantasyland received an EARidsecent makeover, which brings whimsical touches of gold to the magical land.
