Disney Channel Releases First Trailer for ‘Under Wraps’ Remake
One of the great Disney Channel Orignal Movies of the 1990s is getting a fresh retelling as Disney Channel releases the first trailer for the upcoming Under Wraps remake.
Disney has brought back to life one of the truly iconic films they developed in the form of the 1997 Halloween cult classic Under Wraps.
The original film told the story of three teenagers- Marshall, Gilbert, and Amy- who accidentally set a 3,000-year-old, living, Egyptian mummy free.
Hilarity ensues as the three young kids are tasked with returning the Mummy back to his sarcophagus by midnight on Halloween, or risk their new mummy friend turning to dust, and lost his chance at being reunited with his long-lost love.
The film was remembered for the very cool makeup used on Harold the Mummy; with his very decrepit face being creepy in appearance, but Bill Fagerbakke’s performance eliciting the human elements of the character.
The minute-long trailer released by Disney Channel will show off what the new film will look like, with the Under Wraps remake staring Christian J. Simon, Malachi Barton, Sophia Hammons, and Phil Wright as the three teenagers and one Mummy.
Although the feel of the remake is very akin to the contemporary world, it feels very true to the original film; the premise of the two is likely identical.
Movieweb.com reported the premise of the film as,
The re-imagined story takes place a few days before Halloween when 12-year-old friends Gilbert (Simon), Marshall (Barton), and Amy (Hammon) accidentally revive a mummy they discover in a neighbor’s basement, which they affecitonaltey name Harold (Wright). However, they must rush to return him to his resting place before midnight on Halloween.
Along the way the team narrowly escapes a nefarious group of criminals intent on selling the mummy to the highest bidder. When Harold is inevitably captured, Marshall, Gilberm abd Amy must badn together to stand up to the cirminals, face their fear, and rescue thier new but rather ‘ancient’- friend.
While Under Wraps may not have the same cult status as something like Halloweentown, the original 1997 film is credited as the first Disney Channel Original Movie themed around Halloween.
