Disney Cruise Line Shares Photos and Construction Update for the Disney Wish
Disney Cruise Line has just shared some exciting updates about the Disney Wish from the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany! Construction on the newest ship is moving along at a great pace and per Phillip Gennotte, Portfolio Project Management Executive for Walt Disney Imagineering Germany, construction on the Disney Wish has just hit two major milestones!
The first milestone in the construction of the Disney Wish is the near completion and installation of the bridge or wheelhouse. This area of the ship is where the captain, officers, and crew operate the ship and also gives any ocean liner it’s identity.
The wheelhouse is part of a huge block of the Disney Wish and in addition to being functional, it gives the ship “a face.” Once this huge block of the ship is installed, it’s a huge milestone when it comes to ship building and the second main building part of the cruise ship – the foreship – is complete.
After this construction milestone is complete, the first building part of the Disney Wish, the gigablock, will be attached to the foreship. From there, the aft blocks will be installed and that will complete the construction on the ship!
In addition to the near completion of and installation of the wheelhouse, the bow for the Disney Wish has also just been installed.
Keeping with the tradition of other ships in Disney Cruise Line’s fleet, the Disney Wish will also feature a long bow in addition to elegant lines and sleek hulls.
The Meyer Werft shipyard uses advanced technology to when it comes to building each block of a cruise ship. Once complete, the Disney Wish will be comprised of just under 100 blocks! And, these blocks are heavy! The tip of the bow alone weights a whopping 500 metric tons!
Once the bow block is installed, which should take about 10 hours, there will be about 30 blocks left to be installed before the construction on the Disney Wish is complete! From there, it’s sea trials before the much-anticipated inaugural voyage in June 2022!
