Happy birthday, Canada!
July 1 marks Canada Day – happy birthday, Canada! What better place to celebrate than the Canada pavilion at Epcot’s World Showcase?
Right now, visitors from the United States can’t enter Canada. But you can get a taste of the Great White North at Epcot!
Every time I visit Epcot, I have to spend lots of good time in Canada. Here’s what I like to do when I’m there:
Talk to the cast members
Did you know that the cast members who work in the various countries actually are natives of that country? That’s right! These amazing cast members commit to work at Epcot for one year. They live in housing close to Walt Disney World with other members of the international programs.
I love to talk to the cast members in Canada to learn about where they’re from and to hear how they’re enjoying their work at Epcot.
A former cast member from Germany who worked in merchandise in the Germany pavilion is now the vice president of finance at Disneyland Paris!
Eat at Le Cellier Steakhouse
In my opinion, Le Cellier Steakhouse is one of the very best restaurants that Walt Disney World has to offer. Here you descend into the cozy cellar of a Canadian château for exquisite steaks and seafood specialties.
And of course they have one of our favorite dishes: their famous cheddar cheese soup. Get the recipe if you’re salivating just thinking about this!
If I were at Epcot today I would definitely eat at Le Cellier just so I could raise a glass and say, “Happy birthday, Canada!”
Buy some Canadian gifts
A stop in Canada always means a trip to the Trading Post or Northwest Mercantile. There, I like to stock up on shirts from Roots, Coffee Crisp and Aero Bars, and usually a new maple leaf Christmas ornament.
Unfortunately, these shops are closed right now, but I hope they’ll be opened again by the time I visit again!
Visit Canada Far and Wide
The Circle-Vision show in Canada is always a favorite. I always loved their O Canada, narrated by Martin Short. That was replaced early last year with a new show called Canada Far and Wide.
This is an updated edition of the classic, 12-minute Epcot Circle-Vision 360 presentation. It has just been closed (as of June 27), hopefully just for a refurbishment. Stay tuned!
Relax
I think Canada is one of the best places to unwind at Epcot. There so many nooks and crannies where you can sit down. You can find lots of benches and nooks and crannies where you can sit.
Plus, it’s a beautiful pavilion. I just love looking at the recreation of the Chateau Frontenac or the beautiful landscaping.
Happy birthday, Canada!
