BREAKING: Disney Cruise Line Cancels Test Sailing Due To Inconsistent COVID-19 Test Results
It’s bad news at the moment for Disney Cruise Line.
Following hot on the heels of the Celebrity Edge, Disney was making a big push to resume cruising with a test sailing scheduled for Tuesday.
However, these plans were thwarted by inconsistent COVID-19 test results from crew members on the ship.
As the Orlando Sentinel tells us, the ship was scheduled to depart on a two night sailing on Tuesday in order to obtain their conditional sailing certificate from the CDC.
In an official statement released by Disney Cruise Line they said that the cancellation was due to inconsistent test results that were submitted before sailing. In the statement Disney said, “We are delaying our simulation cruise due to a small number of inconsistent COVID-19 test results, which are considered positive by the CDC. ” The statement continues, “The rigorous health and safety protocols we have in place helped us identify the situation, though the test results were ultimately negative.”
Hopefully this is something that Disney will be able to overcome and soon. As of going to print sailings have been cancelled through mid-August. There is no word yet on whether DCL will need to cancel other sailings while they work to get the cruise line back on track.
Though some cruise lines are requiring 100% vaccination rates for crew and passengers, Disney did not have plans on doing the same. Instead, the company would go straight to a simulated sailing before determining additional measures that need to be taken to ensure passenger and crew safety.
Tuesday’s departure was expected to be the first sailing leaving from Port Canaveral and was expected to have volunteer passengers on board.
The last Disney cream departure was on May 9, 2020.
