The Disney PR group is doing a nice job pulling together material for Cruella that might just take a villain from a 1961 animated flick and turn her into a contemporary phenomenon.
With each successive trailer, teaser, or clip I’m drawn into the world of a character I once loved to hate.
Cruella “lit” up the room. Image: Disney.
I mean it, she was like second to Darth Vader back in the day.
This song was like a Halloween anthem:

Cruella De Vil Cruella De Vil If she doesn’t scare you No evil thing will To see her is to Take a sudden chill Cruella, Cruella De Vil…”
However, will she get a “sympathetic” back story, just like Vader? After all, they both seem to be borne of fire!

Other allusions, both direct and implied are to DC’s “Joker” and, perhaps, “Harley Quinn.”
However, there’s lots more to garner from a romp down the four previous videos which bring us to today’s new clip.
Four Teasers and Trailers
I love the above for the choice of Connie Francis’ “Who’s Sorry Now?” And, of course, the Dalmations growling at her.
This one, it’s “The Future” mask on Cruella as she crashes a party. I mean, which is the scariest ghost in A Christmas Carol?
And I like the tagline: “Meet the Queen of Mean.”
Also, I want to say that the end snippet of this video is a direct homage to Jack Nicholsen’s Joker and his scene in the art museum in 1989’s Batman.
“The Baroness” as played by Emma Thompson says, “You can’t care about anyone else. Everyone else is an obstacle. If you care what an obstacle wants or feels, you’re dead.”
Maybe Cruella learned her lesson a little too well?
“I’m brilliant. Bad. And a little bit mad… I’m Cruella.”
Fair enough.
First Clip: Disney’s Cruella

And now, the video you have been waiting for, the first full clip I have seen from Cruella.
Disney’s Cruella | New Look
Walt Disney Studios’ official YouTube explained of Cruella:

“One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute, played by two-time Oscar® winner Emma Thompson (“Howards End,” “Sense & Sensibility”). But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable and revenge-bent Cruella.”
Can’t wait until May 28!
