Disney Cruise Line Removes Select UK “Staycation” Sailings From Website
We’ve got some very interesting news out of the UK today. According to a recent piece in Cruise Hive, guests hoping to book one of the Magical Staycation Cruises in Newcastle or Tilbury in the UK will find that these sailings have been removed from the Disney Cruise Line website.
When Disney originally made the announcement regarding sailings from England, they were supposed to depart from four different ports. However, it looks like there has been a change of plans and that this has been narrowed down to two ports.
As of going to print, Disney Cruise Line has yet to make any official statement regarding the changes.
Earlier this Spring, Disney CEO Bob Chapek announced that Disney Cruise Line was unlikely to resume itineraries until the fall of 2021. However, shortly after Disney released the news that they would start sailing from the United Kingdom. It was believed that this was part of an effort to reopen domestic tourism in the country and was met with much fanfare from UK residents.
However, what was originally intended to be cruising from four ports has dwindled down to two with Disney not explaining the reasoning as of yet. The wording on the webpage now leaves out Newcastle and Tilbury and reads as follows:
Departing on select dates from Liverpool and Southampton aboard the Disney Magic, our new staycation sailings—exclusive to UK residents—invite you to embark on a brand-new, magical Disney experience. Close to home and at sea—be immersed
Cruise Hive speculates that the change could be due to permissions needed from the ports and UK government. However, other reports suggest that this may be due to vaccination requirements.
For those interested in going on a Staycation sailing out of the UK, it should be noted that as of going to print there are still some sailings available to UK residents. Disney Cruise Line will be offering 2-3 and 4-night voyages beginning on April 19, 2021.
Sailings that look like the might have been cancelled are as follows:
Tilbury (London)
- June 14
- June 16
- June 21
- June 23
Newcastle
- July 5
- July 7
- July 9
- July 22
- July 29
During the Staycation sailings guests will be able to enjoy many of the awesome amenities that Disney ships are known for. President Thomas Mazloum announced that Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Anna, Elsa and Olaf as well as some Marvel superheroes are all expected to be on board.
Disney Cruise Line will reportedly be implementing special health and safety measures including COVID-19 sailings, health screenings, mandatory face coverings, reduced ship capacity, physical distancing and enhanced cleaning. Disney has yet to release any information regarding vaccination requirements.
Finally, we can report that Disney’s website for booking any cruises on the unique Disney staycations at sea onboard Disney Magic has been showing under maintenance. Readers are encouraged to keep following along with MickeyBlog for further Disney Cruise Line news and updates.
