Imagineer Shares Inspiration Behind Cinderella Castle Makeover
If you’re not following along with Walt Disney Imagineer Zach Riddley on Instagram, consider that your assignment for the week. Zach’s account is always brimming with awesome Disney insights and today we turn our attention to something pretty spectacular that is going on over at the Magic Kingdom!
Over the past week, we’ve shared some images of the first whimsical trimmings being added to the exterior of Cinderella Castle which will be completely decorated to celebrate Disney World’s 50th Anniversary. This is part of a large-scale re-imagining of the castle that started with a new paint job (see below.)
And now, thanks to Zach we have some awesome insights as to where the inspiration for the castle makeover came from:

As you can see from the caption above, inspiration for the castle makeover came from none other than Mary Blair! As Riddley says, “Her enchanting visual designs and use of color for the film Cinderella were our source of inspiration.
Riddley continues, “We wanted to go back to the original story of this beautiful structure to create something entirely original for this grand celebration.”
This will include fanciful ribbons that wrap around the castle turrets similar to those that were wrapped around Cinderella’s gown before she went to the ball!
Disney’s new “Earidescent” colorway was also inspired by the palette of rich hues that Blair used including deep blues, purples and shimmering gold!
