Work Underway on Disney’s New Headquarters in New York City
In case you haven’t heard, Disney is getting some brand new digs in New York City! Their 1.2 million square foot headquarters at 137 Varick Street in Hudson Square is currently under construction.
According to a recent piece in YIMBY, the 22-story 320 foot tall building was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and is being developed in partnership with Silverstein Properties.
Disney purchased the land from Trinity Church Real Estate for $650 million and demolition on the site wrapped up last Summer. For those familiar with New York City geography, the HQ is on Varick Street to the east, Spring Street to the south, Hudson Street to the west and Vandarn Street to the north.
YIMBY shared few photos of the current state of the building site. With demolition over, “subterranean’ construction is underway.
At the moment concrete foundations are being laid which will serve as the base for the structural walls.
Disney’s new home will feature a pair of 320-foot tall towers that will be interconnected by a large podium. Renderings which we’ve shared above show the exterior which will feature pale green panels and bronze finishings. The panels will offer floor two ceiling glass views.
According to reports, the space will be multifunctional housing film and production studios, office space and ground floor retail spaces. As of going to print no completion date has been given. However, this is as story that we’ll continue to follow closely here at MickeyBlog so keep checking in with us for further news and updates.
