Check Out How Things Are Looking at the Morocco Pavilion These Days
I’ve long said it here at MickeyBlog, the Morocco Pavilion is one of my favorite places to get lost in at the World Showcase in EPCOT. That’s why I was sorry to hear about the big changes happening to this incredible, beautiful and exotic area of the park.
For those not in the know, we shared the news back in September that Disney had filed a lawsuit against Marrakesh Moroccan Restaurant which owned the facilities at the Moroccan Pavilion in EPCOT’s World Showcase.
The lawsuit was filed after the company that managed the pavilion was unable to pay its debt because of the lengthy closure earlier this year due to COVID-19.
As a result, the future of this area of the the World Showcase remained uncertain.
Just before Halloween, Disney announced that they would be officially assuming operations of all Morocco Pavilion businesses at EPCOT. This includes food, beverage and merchandise locations. This could definitely be seen during our visit to EPCOT yesterday.
One noticeable difference is that the Gifts of Morocco Gift Shop adjacent to Spice Road Table over on the World Showcase Lagoon has changed its inventory.
In the past, the store carried African-inspired goods and there was even a station to get traditional Henna-style temporary tattoos.
However, now the area features merchandise inspired by Disney’s Aladdin.
Princess Jasmine definitely gets pride of place when it comes to the new inventory.
You’ll find everything from dolls to dresses.
There was also a small selection of Aladdin-themed Christmas Ornaments.
During the issues over ownership, Spice Road Table one of Morocco’s Table Service eateries was temporarily closed.
It reopened this past weekend and is now serving up a Lounge Menu.
The menu now solely features Tapas-style small plates for guests to share.
On the menu you’ll find Naan bread with dipping sauce, hummus fries, stuffed grape leaves, lamb kefta and more.
The restaurant also boasts a nice selection of Sangria and Moroccan wines.
We popped in to this location which is a great spot for those looking to dine while enjoying stunning views of the World Showcase Lagoon.
Aside from a clean lick of paint and a new tapas-style menu, the eatery remained largely the same.
So what does the future hold now that Disney has ownership of the Morocco Pavilion? Can we expect an Aladdin and Jasmine attraction? Will the entire area be rethemed? What we do know is that the Tourism Board and the Embassy in Morocco will continue to serve as consultants on the future of the pavilion, we’ll have to wait and see on the rest.
