Florida Moves Into Phase 3 of Reopening – Capacity Restrictions Lifted from Restaurants and Theme Parks
Today, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, announced that the state would begin “Stage 3” of reopening process and that restaurants and theme parks restrictions would be lifted effective immediately.
Officially, Stage 3 of Florida’s reopening restrictions would limit restaurants to operating at 75% capacity but DeSantis stated that they are free to operate at 100% capacity.
As far as theme parks in the state, those are also permitted to begin operating a maximum capacity.
So, what does that mean for Walt Disney World? Most likely nothing at this time. Even though Florida is officially in Stage 3 of reopening, Walt Disney World is a private business and does not have to adhere to Phase 3 guidelines. It is also important to note that local governments are still permitted to limit capacity but cannot legally shut a business over COVID-19.
In addition, since Walt Disney World has been doing all they can to keep all Guests and Cast Members safe and healthy, I do not expect them to drastically increase theme park capacity at this time. I would also be surprised if restaurant capacity changed in the near future as well.
Even though Walt Disney World does not publish their capacity numbers, many have estimated that the Parks are operating around 25 to 30% capacity at this time. They also will not announce when they increase capacity and/or if they already have. Many Guests have said that they have noticed increased crowds the past few weeks and we have seen that personally while at the Parks.
In addition to Governor DeSantis move Florida into Phase 3 of the reopening today, several other restrictions were also lifted including capacity limits retail establishments, non-essential travel can resume, and vacation rentals can resume normal operations among others.
