Exciting New Details Just Released About Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Refurbishment
As we reported a few weeks ago, Disney’s Polynesian Village at Walt Disney World is about to undergo a magical refurbishment. Part of the refurbishment includes Moana-themed rooms but that’s not where the magic ends. Disney has just released even more updates about the Resort’s transformation and I just can’t wait for Summer 2021 to get here already!
One of the first changes will be noticeable when you first arrive at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. A new porte cochere is being built that has been designed to showcase the iconic mid-20th century architecture that the Polynesian is known for. Walt Disney Imagineering has used colors, patterns, and textures found throughout the Resort to inspire the new entryway.
The new porte cochere will also feature a high-pitched, open-truss roof covered in a thatch style. A bold façade that features pops of color complementing the Longhouses found throughout the resort is also included in the new design.
At the Polynesian Village Monorail Station, design plans include bold new wooden screens that have been covered with geometric patterns in bright, tropical colors, completing an exciting new composition that will greet you when you arrive.
The open and breezy entryway also will feature dramatic lighting elements with stunning chandeliers inspired by glass floats, fishing nets and oversized bamboo elements. Guests will notice these new chandeliers are a replica of the grand chandelier currently found in the Resort’s lobby.
The refurbishment plans also include enhancements to the resort’s lush gardens and tranquil fountains that have welcomed Guests since the resort opened back in 1971.
As work on the Polynesian Village refurbishment begins in coming days, the Great Ceremonial House, dining and retail options will remain open. In addition, the DVC wing of the resort, Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows will also continue to welcome Guests. However, Monorail service to and from the Resort will be suspended next month when work begins on the Monorail station.
An exact reopening date for the Polynesian has not been announced by Disney other than Summer 2021. However, that will ensure it will be open just in time for Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary celebrations to begin next year! As soon an opening date and any additional information on the refurbishment at the Polynesian is provided, you can count on MickeyBlog.com to bring it to you first!
