Jon Landau Shares Images Of Crabsuit Which Will Appear In ‘Avatar 2’
The last time we shared news about the progress of James Cameron’s Avatar 2 sequel, it was regarding the fact that the release date was being pushed back due to the COVID-19 crisis (more on that in a minute.) However, today we have something that should raise the spirit of fans! Jon Landau took to Twitter earlier this week to provide guests with a new look at an awesome underwater robot vehicle called the Crabsuit.
According to the tweet this submersible will be featured in upcoming sequels. Let’s take a look:
The Crabsuit: A human driven multifunction submersible. One of the many new RDA vehicles that will be seen in the Avatar sequels.

Pretty cool right!? According to a recent piece in CinemaBlend, The Crabsuit will be driven by humans in the movies. This is similar to the Utility Suit used in the original film and which has been known to make the rounds at Pandora: The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Looking like the body of a crab it can also bring in its legs becoming more of a submarine and looks from the second image above to be completely submersible.
The official Avatar Twitter page also reveals that there are more RDA vehicles that will appear in the films. RDA stands for the Resources Development Administration in Avatar. As CinemaBlend tells us this the key organization that interacts with the planet in the film.
A message from James Cameron.

As you can see from the July 23rd tweet above, James Cameron posted a public letter to Avatar fans last month announcing that the premiere date of ‘Avatar 2’ is being pushed back an entire year due to the COVID-19 crisis. Originally slated to appear next December, it will now be delayed until December 16, 2022. The other films in the franchise will be released as follows:
- Avatar 2: December 16, 2022
- Avatar 3: December 20, 2024
- Avatar 4: December 18, 2024
- Avatar 5: December 22, 2028.
