Firstly, did you ever want to travel back in time to help Rolly Crump and Mary Blair create the wondrous display of toys for “it’s a small world”?
Me too.
Small World: Be Like Mary and Rolly
Secondly, now, thanks to The Walt Disney Family Museum, you too can help create community.
The upcoming exhibition, “it’s a small world: A Virtual Community Art Exhibition” will collect submissions for a virtual experience.
A Virtual Exhibition
According to one of its songwriters, Disney Legend Richard Sherman, its signature lyrics were meant to be a “prayer for peace” in the wake of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Like any other work of art, “it’s a small world” is informed by and inextricably linked to the realities surrounding its creation.
Just as urgent as it was 55 years ago, “it’s a small world” simply and effectively demonstrates that the criticality of appreciating and embracing cultural differences.
Our first virtual exhibition asked our global community to share their vision for the future. This virtual exhibition asks our global community to share their vision for a just and equitable present. In addition to accepting traditional 2D and 3D artworks, we encourage the submission of original short films.
Simple Song. Simple Rules.
The rules seem simple, just like the song and the sentiment.
Submit an image of your painting, drawing, photograph, or 3D object; or submit an original film inspired by it’s a small world. Your work will be entered in a juried pool for display in a virtual gallery… The virtual exhibition will be publicly on view via our website. Thank you for participating!
