Your Insider’s Guide to Some of the Lore Found in the Haunted Mansion Ride Queue
With Halloween just a few weeks away, we here at MickeyBlog thought we’d celebrate by sharing with you some of the spooktacular details that went into making the Haunted Mansion reach cult status as one of Disney’s most popular attractions. Part of the beauty and intrigue of this ride lies in all of the wonderful and mysterious details woven into everything from the ride to the queue.
Here’s a few “did you knows” to impress your friends on their next visit to the Magic Kingdom.
The cemetery queue that snakes its way around the property actually contains numerous hidden references to characters that were originally supposed to appear in the storyline of the attraction but didn’t make the final cut! One of these characters is Sea Captain Culpepper Clyne. You’ll recognize his tomb (top image) as a water-spitting focal point of the cemetery. This attraction is actually a nod to a character originally created for the attraction by iconic Disney Legends Rolly Crump and Yale Gracey. In the original version of the ride, guests would encounter the sea captain just before a ghost would materialize. However, the Sea Captain was eventually cut as final changes were made to the Haunted Mansion.

If you take time to explore these closely, you’ll notice that they reveal an actual “Who-done-it?” See if you can follow the clues to reveal who committed this hideous family crime. Take our word for it, it pays to look “behind.”
Wedding Ring – As you near the end of the ride queue and the entrance to the Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom be on the lookout for a discarded engagement ring embedded in the pavement.
