ICYMI: Return To “It’s A Small World…” – VIDEO
I mean. there’s no doubt I needed to see this video today. With my own Disney travel plans pushed back, it was really excellent to see Mickey Blog return to The Magic Kingdom. And, to see my family’s favorite ride, “it’s a small world” – well, it was sublime.

Let’s call it: #FunByProxy
But before that, let’s learn about “it’s a small world” (straight from the source):
- “it’s a small world” was created for the 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair. Personally overseen by Walt Disney in support of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the attraction was a huge hit. After 2 seasons there, it was shipped to Disneyland park, where it opened on May 28, 1966.
- Walt Disney asked the Academy Award®-winning brothers, Richard and Robert Sherman, who were hard at work on Mary Poppins, to create a single song that could be sung by Audio-Animatronics figures in multiple languages.
- Under the direction of designer Alice Davis, Disney seamstresses sewed over 300 costumes in all. Authentic materials were used for each region’s traditional attire, from silks for the saris of India to fine wool for the Scottish bagpiper.
