Disney+ Hamilton Trailer Drops and it’s Awesome
Lin-Manuel’s Award-Winning Musical, Hamilton, Premieres On July 3
One of the biggest laughs I got out of Rian Johnson’s neo-mystery Knives Out occurred when Don Johnson (as Richard Drysdale) quoted Hamilton (seemingly misunderstanding the musical) and dropped, “I saw it at The Public.”
I’m not sure how many other folks in the room got the joke or the reference (and I only know it because I know folks who saw the show at The Public), but it shows how far into the American psyche Hamilton has wound. Particularly when meta-commentary lands so squarely on a guy who hasn’t yet seen the play.
A New Hamilton Trailer
However, although I remain Hamilton deprived — as luck would have it — the show premieres on Disney Plus on July 3. And the trailer just dropped (via ESPN’s ESPYs).
And Lin-Manuel Miranda tweeted it out to the world:
July 3 on @disneyplus, #Hamilfilm.

More About Hamilton
In May, TheWaltDisneyCompany.com teased the film’s streaming premiere:
Today, The Walt Disney Company, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jeffrey Seller and Thomas Kail announced that Disney+ will fast track the premiere of the filmed version of the original Broadway production of Hamilton. The 11-time-Tony Award®-, GRAMMY Award®-, Olivier Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning stage musical will now arrive on the streaming service on July 3, 2020.
“No other artistic work in the last decade has had the cultural impact of Hamilton—an inspiring and captivating tale told and performed in a powerfully creative way. In light of the extraordinary challenges facing our world, this story about leadership, tenacity, hope, love and the power of people to unite against the forces of adversity is both relevant and impactful,” said Robert A. Iger, Executive Chairman of The Walt Disney Company.
“We are thrilled to bring this phenomenon to Disney+ on the eve of Independence Day, and we have the brilliant Lin-Manuel Miranda and the team behind Hamilton to thank for allowing us to do so more than a year before planned.”
Miranda is the Real Deal
Now, I was lucky enough to interview Mr. Miranda back in the day – he is just as cool as he seems on screens.
So, I am VERY excited to finally see the show he teased when I last saw him perform.
“I’m so proud of how beautifully Tommy Kail has brought Hamilton to the screen. He’s given everyone who watches this film the best seat in the house,” said Lin-Manuel Miranda.
“I’m so grateful to Disney and Disney+ for reimagining and moving up our release to July 4th weekend of this year, in light of the world turning upside down; so grateful to all the fans who asked for this, and I’m so glad that we’re able to make it happen. I’m so proud of this show. I can’t wait for you to see it.”
And, certainly, I can’t wait to sit down with my family to watch it!
