Give Kids The World Closure Update
Last week we got the sad news that Give Kids The World Village would be closing their doors due to the hardships brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. 171 employees and a majority of the charity’s staff would be laid off, effective June 17.
They just released a statement regarding the closure that too effect today:
“To our Village family,
As you may know, last week we made the heart-wrenching decision to extend our closure period as a direct result of COVID-19. While this was not an easy decision, thanks to the vision and foresight of our Board of Directors, and the careful planning of resources over many years, we are prepared to manage through this temporary closure.
Our team may be smaller and our gates may be closed for now, but we remain unwavering in our commitment to you, our family. We promise to continue to connect our communities across the world virtually and tell the many inspiring stories that we know help #GiveHopeToWishes.
As we prepare to welcome our special guests back, a small team is actively working on plans to re-open the Village. In addition, we are taking time to work on projects that will support the care and attention to detail our Village family have come to know and expect.
We know that with this news comes many questions, and hope this FAQ will address them.
While our resort is temporarily closed, more than 700 critically ill children each month wait for their life-changing wishes. For this reason, Give Kids The World needs the help of generous donors and community partners now more than ever before. Your generosity will enable us to emerge from these challenging times and resume fulfilling wishes as soon as possible.
If you would like to help Give Kids The World during this unprecedented time, you can do so by starting a Facebook Fundraiser or by donating now.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your ongoing love and support.”
The Village will remain closed until they feel confident that the theme parks, their wish-granting partners, and Give Kids The World can all provide the level of service their precious wish families deserve.
“Although the theme parks are reopening, we are uncertain as to when they will be able to welcome vulnerable guests, including our wish children,” Landwirth said. “It’s going to have to be when all three of us — the theme parks, the wish-granting organizations and Give Kids the World — feel it will be safe.”
